Jonghyun and Taemin @ tvN Opera Star ep.2
Who was Eliminated on ‘Opera Star 2012’?
It was the end of the road for singer The One on the latest episode of tvN’s Opera Star 2012. The One, who performed Nella Fantasia, was eliminated during the second round of the live competition, which aired on February 17.
Although The One’s rendition of the solemn and dignified song was applaudable, the singer was off to a rocky start when he butt heads with his mentor while preparing for the performance. The singer and his mentor had different opinions concerning the key and mood of the song, and when The One decided to perform it his way, the performance was met with criticisms from the judges who said, “It was different from the last performance.”
The One found himself on the chopping block for elimination alongside Dana, and the four judges were split, with each contestant receiving two votes. The decision was turned over to text message votes, and, as the contestant who received the least amount of votes, The One was ultimately eliminated.
Dana breathed a sigh of relief and said, “I was among the three contestants up for elimination last week as well, so there are all kinds of thoughts running through my mind. I will practice hard.”
The One remained relatively cool and said, “It’s true that a mistake is a mistake. As a singer, I have to take responsibility for my poor condition. I’m calm because the result is accurate. I’m sorry because I think Dana was worried. Still, [Opera Star] was a meaningful space.”
Meanwhile, Kim Jong Seo powered through Lucio Dalla’s Caruso despite a back injury, receiving a standing ovation, while Park Ji Heon, Park Ji Yoon and Park Ki Young also put on passionate performances.
For six weeks, singers will go head to head on Opera Star 2012, performing operatic arias. Singer Joo Hee was the first contestant to be eliminated last week and The One met his end this week. On the fifth episode, however, two contestants will be eliminated, before the final round, where the two remaining contestants will face off to take home the title. [enewsworld]
Park Ji Heon Wins First Round of ′Opera Star 2012
Park Ji Heon has emerged as the winner of the first round of competition in tvN’s Opera Star 2012, with Joo Hee being eliminated. Opera Star 2012 premiered its first two-hour live episode on February 10 beginning at 9 pm in Seoul’s KEPCO Art Center. Park Ji Heon, Park Ki Young, Son Ho Young, Park Ji Yoon, The One, Dana, Kim Jong Seo and Joo Hee made up the eight contestants, who all showed a new side of themselves for their first stages.
Kim Jong Seo, who was first to go on stage, sang Il trovatore, a song filled with rage, as the character is preparing for war. Kim fully emoted the charisma of the song and skillfully handled the range of high and low notes in a classical manner.
CSJH’s Dana sang Les filles de Cadix, clad in a long red dress, exuding a sexy yet enchanting side, drawing the attention of her fans, who have been waiting for a CSJH comeback.
The One selected E lucevan le stele for his stage, and was able to hit the high notes for the song from the opera Tosca, but gave off the impression that this vocal trainer for many top artists was feeling little pressure.
Park Ji Heon selected Una Furtiva Lagrima. The song is sung by the character of a man with an innocent heart and Park was able to convey those same emotions.
Park Ki Young was next to go on stage and emerged right-away as a potential candidate to win the competition with Ave Maria. The emotions from each word of the song were clearly felt in the haunting song. Her entry into the classical field of music was met with a lot of praise.
Son Ho Young picked Chanson du Treador for his debut stage in the competition. The bright and cheerful yet commanding song was portrayed well by Son and his merits felt throughout the song.
Next was Joo Hee with Je Veux Vivre dance ce re`ve. Just as she is recognized for her ability to hit the high notes as a singer, she was able to show off those strong points in this stage.
Last to go on stage was Park Ji Yoon who sang Una Furtiva Lagrima. Her rendition gave the impression she had become a pro female lead with her background in classical vocal training.
So of these eight, who came out on top? Park Ji Heon emerged as the winner of the first round, saying, “I’m wondering if it wasn’t my fake moustache and costume for my performance that was received so well. To my first-born son at home, Daddy has placed first. Daddy is a singer.”
8eight′s Joo Hee was unfortunately the first to be eliminated. Just like the first season, the second season of Opera Star 2012 will determine who becomes eliminated and who moves on to the next round through a live vote, with the two artists who receive the lowest vote and the lowest scores from the four-panel judge becoming eliminated.
Park Sang Hyun serves as the conductor with the four-panel judge comprised of Jo Yong Gab, Han Kyung Mi, Seo Hee Tae, and Lee Kyung Jae. [enewsworld]
